Mata Hari - (Friday) Her scent is striking and bold with a delicate yet dark undertone: five roses with soft jasmine, warmed by vanilla, fig, tonka bean and mahogany, spiced with a drop of coffee bean. When I first put it on, it was overwhelmingly floral (like geranium, maybe?), with perhaps a bit of cotton candy thrown in. Really, really sweet. It stayed that way for hours. Around 4 hours in, it mellowed slightly- and by slightly I mean it started smelling like floral bubble gum. Still really sweet. Overnight it finally settled into an inoffensive, vague floral scent. NOT a keeper for me.
Centzon Totochtin -(Saturday) Bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood. I LOVE THIS! It started off smelling like I don't know what (rum?) - but wonderful. Enticing. I felt like slathering it all over. Amazing. Throughout the course of the evening I caught scents of amber, cinnamon, honey, rum & vanilla. A very warm, comforting smell. It (perhaps coincidentally? I'll be testing that theory) led to what was likely the hottest night of my entire life. (For those in doubt, I'm not talking about temperature. Wow!) For now, I'm also giving it the credit for the fact that gregortroll also made me an amazing breakfast this morning. Heh. I will definitely be buying a large bottle of this!
Kali - (Sunday) This perfume is a blend of the sacred blooms of cassia, hibiscus, musk rose, Himalayan wild tulip, lotus and osmanthus swirled with offertory dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco, balsam and honey. Hm. I put this one on a little over an hour ago, and can still smell nothing but roses. Pleasant enough, but a bit overpowering. Given that the Mata Hari also has roses and was overwhelming, I'm positing a theory that roses stand out on me, and should be used sparingly, if at all. Unless this one morphs radically (as I understand, not an unheard of occurence, with these blends) it will also NOT be a keeper. Will update in the AM.
ETA: I ended up washing off the Kali before going to bed Sunday. It was just too overwhelming, and I had an oncoming migraine that made it all the more so.
