To discover what I'd told them (or rather, that Troll had, since I didn't make the phone call) that the problem is the modem, and that they need to send us a new one (oh, and...when Troll told them he thought it was the modem, they LIED OUTRIGHT, telling him that they could tell from there if it were a modem issue, and it wasn't. The field guys looked at me in utter disbelief when I told them that one).
Bah. So hopefully, we'll have a new modem tomorrow. And Verizon is about to be on the receiving end of a serious turboing (or at least, something like it. Perhaps incessant nattering would be a better descriptor) bout. With any luck, I'll get the past week taken off of our bill.
