Hair

The older I get, the darker brown my hair gets. I wonder if this is just how aging works, or that I really spend that much less time in the sun each year.

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee

For those of you who haven't run across it otherwise, the DSCC is a group "committed to electing a democratic senate". They currently have a twofer sale: any contributions you make by June 30 will be doubled by a group of democratic senators.

Please note that I know almost zero about this group, and I have NOT done the research on them yet*, but they certainly seem like a good idea. I was forwarded the info from Harry Reid's site, Give 'Em Hell, Harry, which seems like a decent endorsement. If someone else does know/has done the research, please let me know and I'll update this post!

*I make it a point to research any organization before giving them money. You should too. Too many fraudsters out there to do otherwise.

Dude!

LibraryThing, which I already love with a ridiculous passion (and a lifetime membership), now has mobile functionality. Check it out.

I think I only have around half of our library cataloged at this point (a good chunk of which I did yesterday), and most is not yet tagged. But I work on it, in calm moments.

Packing progress (or not)

So. Today I have:

-found and eliminated a virus from my laptop (actually, the Troll did most of that, while I snoozed awhile longer with the cats)
-done some grocery-type shopping
-packaged up some of my winter clothes for storage using the nifty new gadget we got
-harassed all the cats
-made social plans for the weekend
-brought up & repacked some stuff* I brought back from Texas (in December, yes. It's been sitting in a bin in our lobby since then).
-taken pictures of the awesome crazy candlestick holder I got in Texas (clearly a task of critical timing and importance) (and yes, it *does* have tentacles)
-eaten some chocolate

I have not done any packing. Neither has the Troll.

* Mostly dishes. I sort of collect dishes. Not in the "I-know-how-many-pieces-and-the-catalog-number-and-values-each-type-has", but in the far simpler "oooh, PRETTY!" way. I have some Frankoma - particularly the rarer desert gold and prairie green colors (most of which I brought back from TX - apparently the liking for it runs in the family), and various jewel-toned depression glass (ruby, cobalt, forest green) and some carnival glass (which I have loved since I was a wee little one) and various other stuff. My latest discovery is that I like Franscican Madeira-patterned dishes (got a lovely platter in TX for $1).

Two things about me that amuse me:

1. I just walked into the kitchen, looked around, saw the honey...and made a cup of tea because I wanted some honey.

2. Whenever I see images from Samurai Jack (or even if I think/talk about it), I "hear" the weird buzzy, creepy music that is prevalent in that show.

It is my considered and firm opinion that soap should never, EVER have glitter in it.

That is all.

In my ongoing efforts to get gifts out to my family members in a timely fashion, I've printed up a full sheet of labels for each of them. I've already got my own printed return address labels. Now all I need is to somehow get them together with box/envelope & contents faster than is otherwise my wont.

*makes noises like the avatars of a once (still?) popular rice cereal*

Oh. My. Gawd.

So, the Troll and I went to our first UCAL class last night - the Evening Workout.

BEST. WORKOUT. EVAR.

Understand that I'm mostly a slug when left to my own devices...but I do LIKE to work out. It's just getting me there that's a problem, usually. Having the Troll to go with was a good thing. We're both quite stiff & achey today, but all in good ways. We were both drenched in sweat by the end of class - and so was everyone else, even those who are quite a bit more fit than us. Including the instructor. GOOOOOOD workout!

And today, I go back for a belly dance class. I hope it's as strenuous. I'd be very, very happy.

As a side note, the car (barely, as I understand it) failed its emissions test last week, so it's getting a full tune-up. We should have it back tomorrow, and if so, I'll start making trips to the gym on days that I don't have classes. No more slugness for me!

Meanwhile, must go to the post office today! SO not making it to the post office today. Heh.

A belated note:

Though I have absolutely no use for it otherwise, I *do* like that St. Patrick's Day means corned beef on sale.

Yum.

I really hate insomnia.

On the other hand, I really enjoy watching what happens when I put a splash of vanilla extract into a mug of cold milk.

The Dating Game

Though I've been with the decidedly male [info]gregortroll for what'll be 7 years (longer than I've been with anyone) come Halloween, in terms of numbers, I've dated many more women than men.

I believe he's my last stop on the relationship train. I feel like with him, I'm home, safe. 'sa wonderful feeling.

Coffee or Tea?

Both.

I like hot coffee, hot tea, iced coffee, iced tea.

Coffee: I usually drink decaf, because I find that the flavors are stronger, and because caffiene has no appreciable effect on me. I like flavors (hazelnut & vanilla are favorites), and cappucino, and vietnamese coffee with sweetened, condensed milk. Not much of a straight espresso fan, though I like the beans covered in dark chocolate.

Tea: We hates the lipton. Bitter, nasty stuff. Tetley is yummy, though -as are many store brands. I like various herbal blends. I don't like the pre-sweetened, soda-like crap you can buy in bottles, though. My current favorite is Gevalia's Citrus Green, hot, with honey and half-n-half. Yum!

ETA: I also particularly love loose-leaf darjeeling tea, and indian spice tea.

I have a very, very strong preference for dark chocolate over milk. And I like nuts in, but no goo.

Don't even talk to me about white "chocolate". Nasty marketing ripoff.

National Geek Day

Not only is Serenity opening this weekend, but also Neil Gaiman's Mirrormask is as well (though not, sadly in Philly).

Time Magazine interview with Whedon & Gaiman. (thanks [info]lysana!)

I may actually break my "I refuse to go to movies on opening night in Philly" rule, on the grounds that a)I can get assigned seating at The Bridge and b)Though it will likely be crowded, it will be more likely to be crowded with cool people than with the usual opening night movie idiots.
